Rules for all Age Categories

All works must be performed from memory.

No simplified version, no popular music and no concerti.

All winners will play at Winners' Recital. The piece will be chosen by the judge. Please note: in consideration of the overall length of the recital a shorter piece might be chosen by judge.

FEES AND REGULATIONS

Application Fees:

   Solo Division $35
   Concerto Division $50

Applicant's age as of March 3, 2012 will determine the age division.

-

Previous first prize winners may choose to compete in a higher age division but not in the same or lower age division.

-

Registration fee is not refundable.

-

Applicants must not have graduated from high school.

-

Works to be performed must be chosen from the required repertoire; no substitutions will be allowed.

-

The Director reserves the right to limit the number of applicants in any category, or to add additional audition times in event of a large number of competitors, or to cancel a category with fewer than four auditionees.

-

Contestants will be judged on overall musicianship, individual sense of style, technical proficiency and general performance impressions.

-

The time allowed for auditions is 5 minutes for 6 to 9, and 10 to 12 years age categories and 10 minutes for 13 to 15 and 16 to 18 years age categories. The judges reserve the right to stop the contestant at any time during or before the allowed time has elapsed. The judge will also stop the contestant if a program exceeds the allowed time.

The decision of the judges will be final. This includes the decision to award, not to award, or to split all prizes. A winner who cannot attend the Winners' Recital will be disqualified.

Applicants will be notified of audition time by mail.

-

A Duquesne University staff pianist will be available for one rehearsal and the audition for $60. Accompanist fee must accompany the registration form.

Effective June 1, 2011, CMC will begin processing Summer Tuition Payments online. Final tuition payments for the current academic year should continue to be processed through the CMC office.

Please note, credit card payments will be subject to a 2.55% prcessing fee. Payments by check or eCheck have no fee.
