Duquesne Young Artist National Competition and Piano Festival 2010

PIANO FESTIVAL
The goal of the festival is to recognize and to honor achievements of the piano student. The festival is open to students ages 6 to 18. Winners will be chosen by tape/CD, there is no live audition. Winners will perform in Winner’s Recital on March 6, 2010, 11:00AM in the PNC Recital Hall in the School of Music at Duquesne University. Each winner will be awarded a Winner’s Diploma. There is no monetary prize. You may participate in both the Festival and the Competition.

FESTIVAL RULES

Application deadline
Applications and tape/CD must be postmarked by Friday, February 12, 2010.

Entrance fee
A nonrefundable fee of $30 is required. Please make your check payable to City Music Center.

Memorization
Memorization is required. Winners will not be allowed to perform with music and will be disqualified.

Adjudication
The judges’ decisions are final. The winners will be notified no later than February 22, 2010.

Repertoire
One work from Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Modern period, no longer than 5 minutes. No repeats. No popular music, simplified arrangements or, easy pieces from method books (example, Alfred or Bastien Method Books).

Recording
Tape or CD will be accepted. Write the name of the piece, composer and your age on your tape/ CD. Do not write your name on the recording. It is in your interest to make a good quality recording. No videos. Tape/CD will not be returned.
