How to Apply and Policies & Procedures
HOW TO APPLY TO CITY MUSIC CENTER
Your first contact with us has
probably been a phone conversation,
following which we sent you
the CMC brochure and supplemental
information sheets.
The first step will be to schedule
an appointment to meet with our Director, Chris Bromley and the chair
of the appropriate department.
This is done for several reasons.
If you are a young beginner we
need to determine readiness.
We also try to make as good a
"match" between student and
teacher as we can. After talking
to you and listening to you play
(unless you are a beginner), the
Department Chair will make a
teacher recommendation.
At this meeting we will also
discuss your placement in the
Musicianship curriculum and your
schedule of classes. If there is any
question about placement, you
may meet with the advisor for the
Musicianship
Department who will
give you a diagnostic exam.
The instrumental teacher will contact
you to arrange for a lesson
time. As much as possible this
will take into account your class
schedule.
When all of this is settled and
before lessons can be scheduled,
you will need to complete a registration
form and make payment
arrangements with the CMC
Business Office.
We want you to have a good
experience from the very beginning.
We make every effort to
select the teacher who is best
for you and we recommend the
classes in the core curriculum,
which are appropriate for your
age, level and experience.
It cannot be emphasized enough
how important communication is
to your success in this program.
You and your instrumental/classroom teacher will need to communicate
directly about mutual
expectations, your progress, and
any change in lesson times. Please
do not wait until the end of the
year to bring up a problem. Both
the Administration and the faculty
need to be made aware of any
problems.
We also want to make payment
and attendance policies as clear
as possible so there will not be
any misunderstanding and disappointment.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Payment
Tuition should be paid in full at
the time of registration. A limited
installment plan will be available
for those who need it. Fees for all
registrations after week one (1)
will be pro-rated. Payment may
be made by check or MasterCard/
Visa.
Students may not begin classes
or lessons until registration is
complete and payment arrangements
have been made.
Failure to maintain the payment
schedule agreed upon will result
in a late fee being added to your
balance and may also result in
lessons being stopped.
Attendance Refunds
Once registration is finalized,
faculty and administration expect
that the student will complete
the academic year. Students are
expected to attend all lessons and
classes. Should a student need to
withdraw from the program, notification
in writing must be given
to both faculty and administration.
Refunds and tuition adjustments
will be at the sole discretion of the
CMC staff and will be granted only
for the most serious of reasons.
Lesson Cancellation & Make up Lessons
Lessons that are cancelled by the
teacher will be made up at a time
agreed upon by both parties.
Teachers are under no obligation
to make up lessons cancelled
by students, and such cancellations
will not result in any type of
adjustment of tuition.
Class Minimums
We will adhere to the minimum
class enrollment for elective classes
as shown in the class listing.
City Music Center reserves the
right to cancel any elective class
for which there is insufficient
enrollment. In the case of a class
cancellation, students will be
notified by phone and a pro-rated
refund will be made.
Financial Aid
It is CMC's mission that no serious
student should be prevented
from studying because of financial
problems. To the extent funds
permit, the school will award
assistance to those in need.
Application for aid must be made
every year. Renewal and continuation
of financial aid is based upon
a demonstration of the student's
and family's commitment to the
program. Decisions about financial
aid are made by the Business
Manager.
